Art is alive and kicking in Waynesville, where residents can enjoy a weekend of culture along North Main Street Saturday and Sunday.

The Waynesville Artisans are presenting the second annual Arts Alive Tour of Studios and Galleries. Seventeen artists specializing in unique jewelry, sculpture, photography, glass blowing and painting will share their gifts with visitors in area galleries and studios, and along Waynesville’s historic Main Street of businesses.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday in downtown Waynesville and a several surrounding communities.

One of the event organizers Jud Yalkut said the weekend began last year as a way to bring attention to the somewhat forgotten location of Waynesville’s North Main Street, but has blossomed into a way to showcase both art and the destination possibilities in northern Warren County.

The weekend is also combined with a reception to showcase the Classic Nude Show that runs through May 28. This is the show’s first year and nearly 10 artists are displaying works through painting, drawings, prints, sculpture, digital photographs and sculpture. A reception will be held from 4-6 p.m. Sunday. The Classic Nude Show is being held at the Fish House Art Gallery at 188 N. Main St., which is owned by Waynesville Artisan member and event organizer Sharen Eninger.

Waynesville High School students will perform a play at 2 p.m. on Saturday as part of the highlighted events and several student artists will have booths along Main Street.

A Waynesville dulcimer group will perform Sunday afternoon on the front porch of the Angel of the Garden Victorian Tearoom, 71 N. Main St.

Glass blower Darren Goodman is participating in his second year with glass blowing demonstrations on Saturday at the top of each hour from noon to 3 p.m. He has works displayed in galleries in Montgomery and Fairfield, as well as custom works and internet sales and specializes in vases, bowls and sculptural glass. Goodman said he will give glass blowing demonstrations open during his Saturday hours at 3712. U.S. 42, just south of Waynesville.

A complete list of artists and locations are available at the Waynesville Area Chamber of Commerce, the Fish House Art Gallery and the Wayne Township House, 62 N. Main St. The third Arts Alive Tour of Studios and Galleries is already being planned for Sept. 15 and 16, 2007. Artists interested in joining the tour are invited to call Sharen Eninger at (513) 897-1280.
